Professor Gil Garnier, Director, Australian Pulp and Paper Institute, Australia
Gil Garnier is Director of the Australian Pulp and Paper Institute (APPI) and Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Monash University. Dr Garnier has been a Senior Research Scientist at Kimberly-Clark for 5 years, first in Fiber Technology and then in Family Care. For eight years he held the dual position of Research Engineer at the Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada (Paprican) and Adjunct Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department of McGill University where he coordinated the Masters of Engineering Program of Pulp and Paper and lead research on papermaking engineering. His expertise includes the application of polymers and colloids to surface engineering and papermaking. Dr Garnier holds eight US patents and his publication include over thirty articles and one hundred presentations in industry, conferences and universities. He holds degrees in Chemical Engineering from Sherbrooke University (B. Eng, M. Eng) and Virginia Tech (Ph.D.).

URS Forestry is one of the largest forest sector consulting companies in Asia Pacific with personnel in Australian, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, and is part of the NYSE listed URS Corporation, which has annual revenue in excess of USD3.9billion and 28,000 employees globally. Andrew has acted as strategic adviser through major plantation due diligences of the Carter Holt Harvey and Central North Island Forest Partnership in New Zealand, as part of the APP restructuring advisors in Indonesia, as well as due diligence roles in China. He regularly advises other major multinational investors in the forest sector, including recent roles as strategic and review advisor for projects in Australia, China and Indonesia.
