Mr Arpit Agarwal, Managing Director & Group CEO Financial Services, Dawnay Day AV, India Advisors, India
Arpit Agarwal started his career in corporate finance with Ballarpur Industries Ltd. Of the Thapar Group in India in 1991 and moved on to a career in financial services in 1993 to be amongst the first few who launched the business of Private Banking in India and has the longest standing direct experience of over 12 years in Private Banking in India. He has conceptualized, launched and successfully built sizeable Private Banking businesses for DSP Merrill Lynch (1993-1998), BNP Paribas (1999 – 2002) and ICICI Bank Ltd. (2002 – 2006) in India and has hands on experience with high net worth Indian Resident and Non-Resident clients across the world. The Private Banking business of ICICI Bank was ranked as the largest in India in February 2005 by CLSA and also amongst the top 3 in Asia Pacific in September 2005 by Private Banker International.
Arpit is now the Chief Executive Officer of "Dawnay Day AV". Dawnay Day AV is a specialized financial services provider, formed through a joint venture between Dawnay Day International (DDI) and Alok Vajpeyi. The operations of the new venture in India cover Wealth Management, Stock Broking, Retail Distribution, Corporate Finance, Portfolio Management, Asset Management, Real Estate Advisory and Research Services.
Arpit Agarwal is a Post Graduate in Finance and a Graduate of Science from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi, India and is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
A first in India, Arpit has been instrumental in launching Private Banking elective programmes in over 26 MBA schools and also teaches Private Banking. He is also the Chairman of the Examination and Certification Committee of the Financial Planning and Standards Board (India), the body for Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification in India.
Arpit is an authority in his area of specialization and has been invited to speak at several conferences and seminars to share with the rest of the world his knowledge about the India markets and the financial services industry. His articles have been published in the Journal of Financial Planning.

Mr Andrew Black, Head of Private Bank, St George Private Bank
Andrew has been a leader in the financial services industry for over 20 years. Commencing his career in London in the early 80s, Andrew went on to lead several major operational and business roles at Citibank in both London and Sydney. Andrew joined St.George in May 2000 as Head of Margin Lending and has drawn on his vast experience and expertise to secure an enviable 1500%+ improvement in profit over 5 years. Under his leadership, St.George Margin Lending has been awarded numerous accolades including virtually every “Margin Lender of the Year Award” from the industry’s top publications many years running and an enviable and consistent 5-star Cannex rating for the past 5 years – a rating St.George Margin Lending still holds today. Following Andrew’s great success with Margin Lending, St George recently increased Andrew’s responsibilities to include the key businesses of Private Bank and directshares. Andrew is married with 3 children and is an avid amateur runner, who enjoys tennis, squash, swimming and attending his children’s sporting and recreational activities.

Mr Stuart Cain, Director, Strategic Wealth Management, Goldman Sachs JB Were Private Clients
Stuart Cain works for Goldman Sachs JBWere in Australia and provides Private Client Wealth Management advice to high net worth clients and family groups. He has over 15 years experience having worked for the major chartered accounting firm and a number of international fund managers.
Within a team structure the areas of specialisation include financial structuring including superannuation strategies, taxation planning, financing arrangements and asset protection measures including insurance and intergenerational wealth transfers. In addition an appropriate asset allocation framework is developed for each client within an agreed risk profile prior to providing specific investment product recommendations.
Stuart holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from Macquarie University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has completed a Diploma of Financial Planning and is a Certified Financial Planner. In 1988 Stuart completed his MBA specialising in finance and portfolio management.

Mr Guy Hedley, Head of Macquarie Private Bank, Macquarie Bank
Guy has been involved in the high net worth private client advice market for over 18 years, in New Zealand, Australia and Asia. Over this period he has been involved in the development and management of stockbroking, retail fixed interest, funds management and private banking operations. In addition to training in commerce and financial analysis, Guy holds an MBA from AGSM.

Mr David Hewett, State Director Private Bank NSW, ANZ Private Bank
David Hewett was appointed ANZ’s State Director Private Bank NSW at the beginning of 2005. He was previously ANZ’s Global Head of Telco Media and Entertainment in the Bank’s Institutional Banking Division. He held that role for 5 years from early 2000. These senior appointments followed senior management roles in ANZ’s Global Structured Finance Division and ANZ Investment Bank Relationship Management business.
In his present position Mr Hewett is a member of the Private Bank’s Senior Executive team with direct responsibility for the NSW business which consists of a team of 80 plus Private Banking professionals and over 2,000 client groups. ANZ sees Private Banking as one of its key growth businesses and as State Director Mr Hewett’s role is as general manager of the business setting a strategic agenda with an emphasis on relationship building at the highest level, transactional origination and in select circumstances execution.
In his previous role Mr Hewett was the Bank’s most senior executive directly responsible for delivery of financial services to the top Telco, Media and Entertainment corporations in Australia, New Zealand and offshore markets in which ANZ has an active presence.

Mr Ralf Hohwieler, Head of Private Bank, Bank of New Zealand
Ralf Hohwieler is Head of Private Bank at Bank of New Zealand, based in Auckland. Prior to joining Bank of New Zealand in 2003, where he initially ran investment management activities as Head of Asset Management Services, Mr. Hohwieler was Director Corporate Finance with Mizuho Corporate Bank (formerly The Industrial Bank of Japan) in London. He previously worked for almost 10 years in international financial markets with Royal Bank of Canada Group in a number of senior roles, based in both Frankfurt and London. An Economist by background, Mr. Hohwieler commenced his banking career with National Australia Bank in Wellington.

Born in New Zealand and educated in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, Richard brings a wealth of knowledge regarding Financial Services and relationship banking. He has worked in 2 of the main banks in New Zealand as well as a period in Australia on project related work for National Australia Bank Group. Richard has vast experience in Business Banking, Rural Banking, Branch Banking, Strategy, Project related work, Change Management, and recently took up the role as Westpac’s Head of Private Banking for New Zealand. Holding a Business degree in Financial Planning and having vast leadership experience across a range of different business models, Richard loves the challenge of growing talent, pursuing excellence, and learning about new concepts both personally and professionally.

Kurt Jeston is a Division Director, within the Equity Markets Group at Macquarie Bank. Macquarie's Equity Markets Group offers a range of specialised investment, trading and risk management products to wholesale and private customers in Australia, Asia, Europe, the Americas and South Africa. In his role, Kurt leads a specialist team focused on structuring tailored equity solutions to financial intermediaries and high net worth investors. Kurt has eleven years of equity derivatives structuring and financial advisory experience, previously working as a senior equities adviser for Macquarie Bank and as a state manager within a national advisory dealer group. Mr Nick Kalikajaros, Head of Private Clients, Australia & New Zealand, Merrill Lynch Private (Australia)
Nick Kalikajaros was appointed as the Head of Merrill Lynch Global Private Clients for the Australia/New Zealand region in January 2007. Nick has been in the Private Banking and Wealth Management Industry for 12 years.
His prior roles include being the General Manager for the St George Bank’s Private Bank Division from 2000 to 2006, Executive Director of UBS Warburg Private Clients from 1998 to 2000 and a Senior Executive with the Commonwealth Bank’s Private Banking Division from 1996 to 1998
In addition Nick has held Leadership Roles, Client Relationship Management Roles and Credit Specialist Roles in the Australian Banking and Finance Industry over a period covering a further 16 years.
He is a Senior Fellow of FINSIA and has completed Post Graduate Studies at Sydney’s Macquarie University Graduate School of Management. Nick is an leading expert on the Private Banking Market in Australia. He has spoken at several conferences including previous Terrapin’s Private Banking Conferences in both Australia and Singapore. He has also provided consultancy advice to other market participants in both the High Net Worth and the Mass Affluent Segments.

Ms Kym Madden, Senior Research Fellow, Centre of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies, Queensland University of Technology
Kym Madden has over 20 years’ experience in marketing and communication, especially in the services field. She has a PhD in building relationships in the financial services sector and has been researching in the nonprofit/philanthropy field for the past six years. In particular she has been tracking changes to financial advisors’ attitudes to assisting high net worth clients with philanthropy. She also recently engaged in national research with affluent Australians. As well as private giving, her interests extend to community engagement by businesses. Kym has advised a diverse range of leading public and private sector organisations including the Australian Taxation Office and the Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership. She is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and other professional groups, and has several years’ experience as a Board member in the nonprofit field.

Mr Julien Martel, Head of Private Banking and Business Development, Butterfield Bank
Born in Guernsey in 1970. Educated locally. Joined Ansbacher Group in 1985 within their banking division and was promoted through banking over the next 8 years to end up running the small treasury team. In 1993, joined ANZ Bank in Guernsey as a Relationship Manager responsible for a portfolio of some 125 private and intermediary clients, where I was until 2000 when the ANZ Group decided to sell its operation in Guernsey to Bank of Butterfield, now known as Butterfield Bank. At the time of purchase I was running the Private Banking Team. At Butterfield Bank took over the responsibility as Business Development Manager, the job I did until 2002, when I was promoted to Head of Private Banking & Business Development. Within my role I am part of the Senior Management of the Bank, sitting on the executive committee and travel extensively worldwide meeting and marketing our clients.

Ms Rashmi Mehotra, Investment Consultant and Principal, Mercer Investment Consulting
Rashmi Mehrotra is an investment consultant and Principal in the Sydney office of Mercer Investment Consulting. As the Head of Retail Services, Rashmi leads a team that specialises in advising private wealth management and large financial planning groups.
Rashmi has been working in Australian financial services for 14 years, joining Mercer in October 2003. Previously she was an Associate Director at another leading Australian research house, van Eyk Research, having worked there for 8 years in various roles including research, consulting, marketing & sales, client service and product management of iRate, van Eyk’s web-based research platform. Rashmi has also worked as a financial planner for 2 years.
Rashmi is involved with the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (Finsia) and the Sydney Society of Financial Analysts (Sydney chapter of the CFA Institute) in various roles lecturing and task force duties, which involve setting course direction, assignment and exam papers for portfolio management subjects.
Rashmi holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Delhi. She completed the Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia (now Finsia) in 1995 and the Chartered Financial Analyst program in 1999.

Mr. Jack Pearce, Managing Director, Pearce Callahan & Associates
Jack Pearce consults to the Financial Services sector. Originally trained in mathematics and science, Jack chose to move to the commercial world in the late 1980’s. He joined the financial services industry full time in 1989 and has continuously been a proper authority holder since 1991 making him an early entrant to the world of financial planning and funds management. Jan joined Westpac in late 1994 and her role prior to BT was as the General Manager, Large Corporates in Westpac’s Corporate & Institutional Banking business. Jan headed a global team of bankers, managing a portfolio of large cap corporates in the consumer, industrials, property, energy and resources sectors
Jan has a Bachelor of Science with honours majoring in Pure Mathematics, as well as completing actuarial studies through the Institute of Actuaries in London.

Mr James Thomson, Rich List Editor, BRW
James Thomson is the editor of BRW’s Rich 200, Young Rich, Executive Rich and Rich Summer editions. He also edits the magazine’s Top 50 Entertainers and Top 50 Sports Earners lists. James studied journalism at RMIT University in Melbourne and graduated in 2001. He joined BRW in the same year. James has covered a range of areas during his time at BRW, including manufacturing, gaming, competition policy, the automotive industry, entertainment and sport. Mr Christopher Thorn, Executive Director, Philanthropic Services, Goldman Sachs JBWere
Christopher manages the firm’s Philanthropic Services group, where his primary responsibilities include raising awareness of philanthropic issues; providing advice on investment and capital management to individuals and organisations wishing to implement a philanthropic strategy; and fostering relationships between interested parties in order to facilitate the giving process. He is a member of the Philanthropy Australia Council and is also Chairman of StreetSmart Australia, a campaign established to provide financial support to the homeless in Victoria.
Christopher is a Principal of Goldman Sachs JBWere. He joined JBWere in 1984 and worked in Melbourne as a Retail and Institutional Adviser. In 1993 Christopher moved to New York as Vice President Institutional Sales. Upon returning to Australia in 1996 he was appointed Manager of Goldman Sachs JBWere Queensland business, until returning to Melbourne in 2001.
Christopher has held a variety of senior management roles within the Retail business, including business integration and strategy. In 2002, Christopher established the Goldman Sachs JBWere Philanthropic Services division.
