As a member of Cal Poly’s Investment Oversight Board, Larry helps to oversee the university’s $200 million endowment (ranked in the top 15% of all university endowments for overall performance). He teaches a wide array of subjects including: quantitative methods, financial engineering, international finance, corporate finance and equity investment analysis. His published research is in the areas of statistical arbitrage, domestic and international asset pricing, and dividend capture strategies. Since 2003, his interests have focused on statistical arbitrage in a leveraged equity environment, and the natural extensions toward 130/30 funds and portable alpha strategies.

While Con is perhaps best known for his quantitative work in investment performance measurement and forecasting with techniques such as the Omega function and metrics, he has also been involved with pensions as a fund manager and trustee since the early 1970s, when he managed the NATO provident fund. He chaired the European Federation of Financial Analysts’ Societies committee on methods and measures from 1994 until 2001. He is a member of the steering committees of the Finance Research Institute and Financial Econometrics Research Centre at the University of Warwick, a member of the Societe Universitaire Europeene de Recherche en Finance and of the American Finance Association. He is currently an advisor to the OECD’s working party on private pensions and to the World Bank. He has written and published widely on pensions management and funding, including the OECD occasional paper Fair Value Accounting and Pensions.

Since 2004, Dimitry has completed numerous asset allocation projects utilizing the concept of Commitment Driven Investing. Dimitry is a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Earlier this year AP2 implemented a new alpha-beta strategy that sees all of the fund’s capital being managed quantitatively using enhanced index methods. This provides the correct beta exposure as well as a substantial part of the fund’s alpha targets, with market neutral mandates supplying additional alpha. Being responsible for $15bn (approximately 50% of the fund’s total assets), places Tomas in an excellent position to share his thoughts and experiences on AP2’s new strategies.

Phil has been the investment adviser to trustees of larger UK pension schemes for a number of years. He is an industry leader in a number of areas, including designing and implementing derivative strategies specifically tailored to a client’s objectives. As president of Trustee Suisse, Roland is responsible for the development, structuring and selection of investments, including financial and tax driven products, to be offered to group clients. Prior to this Roland worked at Schroder & Co Bank AG, Swizerland where has was a director from April 2001 to October 2002 where he developed and created the family office division at the Bank, and was also involved in the development and selection of financial products. Roland has extensive experience of manager selection, therefore his thoughts and experiences on the topic are not to be missed.

In addition to strategy allocation and structuring Marcus is responsible for the management of Feri’s hedge fund of funds portfolio. Marcus oversaw the implementation of a $260m portable alpha overlay of an investable hedge fund index (the ARIX Composite Investable Index managed by Feri) as the underlying alpha engine. The ARIX Composite Index is one of the oldest (inception January 2002) and best performing investable hedge fund index worldwide. Marcus’ responsibilities also include single hedge fund manager research and selection.
