Post-conference masterclass Wednesday 29 November 2006
Roadmap for NFC: How to get from here to there
Led by: Edgar, Dunn & Company
Objectives of masterclass: This workshop will discuss how the market will (or can) evolve from its current state to achieve full NFC rollout. The objective of the workshop will be to define the initiatives required to overcome the hurdles, to outline potential business cases, and create a tentative “road map” for the evolution of NFC.
The following concerns on mobile payment services will be addressed:
- Limited rollout of contactless chip-accepting terminals
- Limited (and still unassured) manufacturing of handsets with embedded NFC chips
- Lack of common standards regarding payment methodology
- Business cases have not yet been adequately developed for mobile operators, financial institutions, handset manufacturers and merchants
- Consumers are unaware of the data capability in their phone, much less of the possibility of using it for contactless payments
- Security concerns
NFC - The solution and future of mobile payment services NFC has the potential to enable fast and convenient physical world mobile payments, providing such benefits as:
- Increased mobile phone usage/ARPU (including data traffic)
- Reduced transaction times
- Enhanced loyalty program offerings by merchants, mobile operators and financial institutions
This will be a participatory event, combining presentations, discussions, and small group sessions. Registration begins at 8am. The masterclass will run from 9am through to 1pm. Refreshments will be served.
