Mr Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post
Mr. Abdulla Al Daboos worked for a short while with Zadco, a petroleum company in Abu Dhabi, before joining Emirates airline. As UAE manager of Emirates airline, Mr. Al Daboos helped raise the reputation of the airline locally and at the international level. During his ten-year tenure, Mr. Daboos helped create unity among the different air operators, and was head of the local airlines association as well as the GCC airlines association. In 1999, Mr. Al Daboos joined Emirates Post as Director General and led its transformation into a commercially driven postal corporation.
Under Mr. Al Daboos’ leadership, Emirates Post embarked on an ambitious expansion and diversification plan and created ventures like Dubai Airport Mail Transit Hub, Electronic Document Centre, the Postcard Millionaire, Emirates Marketing & Promotions (EMP), Training & Development Centre, redevelopment of post office buildings with commercial sections, introduction of non-postal services at post office, including retail products, bidding for global postal events such as the UPU Congress and the UPU Strategy Conference 2006 and creating an expansion plan that will see Emirates Post venturing into financial services, logistics and cargo. He has initiated several measures that have turned Emirates Post into a world-class postal organization, through diversification and alliances at the local, regional and international level.

Mr Daniel Baettig, Chief Financial Officer, Swiss Post International
As Chief Financial Officer and a Member of the Board, Daniel Baettig (born in 1964) is responsible for Group Finances at Swiss Post International (SPI). Within the Board of Directors he is in charge of the SPI subsidiaries and franchisees in Asia, the USA and Northern Europe. A native of Switzerland, he speaks English, French and Italian in addition to German. After completing an apprenticeship with Swiss PTT he studied Economics and became a Certified Public Accountant. He has held various international posts in Switzerland and abroad: from 1994-97 he consulted first a Brazilian subsidiary for Von Roll Holding AG (Insulating division) and was subsequently Finance & Administration Manager in the USA (Environmental division). Back in Switzerland, he was responsible for Group tax and consolidation with Suedelektra Holding AG (commodities for steel processing and energy production). He moved to Swiss Post International in 1999. As Chief Financial Officer he is responsible for all aspects of Group Finances, including tax planning and holding structures covering over thirty subsidiaries and franchisees. He graduated as an Excecutive MBA GSBA in 2001. Today he holds a number of directorships for SPI both in Switzerland and abroad. Particularly he holds overall responsibility for the subsidiaries and franchisees in Asia, the USA and Northern Europe. Daniel Baettig enjoys travelling and experiencing different cultures. He relaxes by reading historical literature.

Matthias Finger (matthias.finger@epfl.ch), Ph.D, Political Science, Ph.D., Adult Education (both University of Geneva) is currently Chair and Professor of Management of Network Industries as well as Dean of the School of Continuing Education at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL). He focuses on the liberalisation of the main network industries’ sectors – postal services, telecommunications, energy, public transport, water, and air transport, on the changes undergone by the historical operators in these sectors, and on issues of regulation and public service. He is particularly interested in the implications of the new information and communication technologies on these industries, as well as on their governance. He has written numerous articles and books on this subject and consults with public enterprises, as well as with public administrations and political authorities in Switzerland and internationally. Previously, he was a professor in the United States at Syracuse University (1989-1991) and Columbia University (1992-1994) and at the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration (19995-2002).

Mr Avi Hochman, CEO and President, Israel Postal Company
Avi Hochman has 25 years of experience in financial and general management of a number of firms and institutions. He began his career in 1981 as an economist in the Ministry of Communications of Israel, starting as an Economist in the Economics Department, then the Internal Auditor of the Post Office Bank. From 1983, he served as the Head of Budget and Accounting in the Headquarters of the Ministry of Communications.
He then worked for the Israel Postal Authority as CFO where he was responsible for the financial management of a statutory corporation with an annual turnover of US$300M, 7000 employees, and 650 postal outlets throughout Israel which provided services to the public. He then moved to the Postal Banking Services as the General Manager of Banking Services, a profit-center within the Israel Postal Authority, employing 300 employees and providing banking services to the public in a highly competitive environment.
Avi Hochman is now the CEO & President of the Israel Postal Company.

Mr Ernst Hoestra, Global Industry Director, Postal, Global Account Manager, TNT Express
Ernst started his career at KPN, the Dutch national telephone company. He then moved to TPG, now TNT, where he filled a variety of roles in both the Post and Express Divisions including: International Relations, Marketing, Corporate E-Business Projects, and Postal Operator Projects. Ernst is currently the Global Industry Director Postal in the Express Division's Global Account Management department.
The Global Account Management team is responsible for TNT's top accounts. Its activities are coordinated from the Amsterdam head office.
Ernst graduated from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam and holds 4 degrees in law. He has further studied at Insead, the Rotterdam School of Management, and the Clingendael Foreign Affairs Institute. In addition, he finished a 1 year Certified Financial Management education at the Amsterdam University.

Before joining Reader’s Digest, he was Director, global automotive solutions, Asia Pacific at UPS Supply Chain Solutions, having moved from Menlo Worldwide through the acquisition of Menlo Worldwide Forwarding by UPS Supply Chain Solutions. Prior to that, he was a pioneer of Vector SCM, a SCM joint-venture between Menlo Worldwide and General Motors as Regional Manager. Jin Kiat has an MBA from Manchester Business School, UK.

Mr Paul Lim, President, Supply Chain Asia
Paul Lim is the Founder and President of Supply Chain Asia, a community for logistics and supply chain professionals in Asia. Founded in September 2006, Paul started an annual forum to bring these people together and organized its first event in Bangkok in March 2006, whereby more than 180 people gathered.
Paul is also a Partner with BG Strategic Advisors, spearheading the firm’s Asian presence. Paul is responsible for providing advisory services to Asian supply chain firms seeking to maximize their value through mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and a broad range of strategic alternatives.
Paul is a seasoned logistics leader who has worked for more than 12 years with both international and regional logistics companies. He has held senior management positions with companies such as YCH Group and EGL Eagle Global Logistics (Asia Pacific).
Paul’s career in Logistics started in 1995 when he joined YCH as a Corporate Development Manager. Rising within the ranks, he became a Special Assistant to the CEO within 6 months, and oversaw various critical projects and expansion plans. He was the lead person in new solution creations as well as strategic business development. Paul also assisted the regional expansion of the company, supporting various set-ups in the region including Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Thailand. Paul was the acting General Manager of Thailand during its foundation stage. In 2001, Paul joined EGL Global Logistics as its Regional Logistics Director and was responsible for the overall logistics development in Asia Pacific, encompassing Business Development, Operations and IT.
In April 2004, Paul left the corporate scene to provide a dedicated consultancy and developmental work to Asian companies and secured a project to work with a local logistics company in Thailand. The work that he has done over the last few years focused on corporate restructuring and strategic development.
Paul is a graduate of the National University of Singapore and holds an MBA (with distinction), specializing in Retail Distribution, from the University of Stirling in Scotland.

This allowed Paul to develop and hone his extensive consulting and business development skills within various Corporate environments, Publishers, Transactional Mail Houses, Creative Agencies, Rich Media and Entertainment groups such as Sony Music, Warner, Readers Digest, Universal, Time Inc, Fairfax, and News Limited . Tim Merrell is the Head of Product Management for Financial Institutions Payments for Deutsche Bank Global Transaction Banking – Cash Management. In this role, Tim has global responsibility for client needs assessments, sales support, market segment product strategies and tactical approaches as well as to be the client-driven channel to payment product management resources for Financial Institutions.
In 2002, Tim joined Deutsche Bank. Prior to this he worked at ABN AMRO for five years, where he led the financial institutions payments and collections product group covering the US Dollar and New York-based Euro clearing services.
Prior to ABN AMRO, Tim worked for Chase Manhattan Bank in operations, customer service and US Dollar product management.
Tim is a member of the IFSA Product Group, represents Deutsche Bank on the SWIFT US National Group sub-committee for Cash and is a member of the editorial board for International Payments.
Tim is a graduate of Syracuse University and has a Masters of Business Administration from Baruch College.

With nearly 20 years’ experience in journalism, Paul has reported on the European and international transport and logistics sector since the mid-1990s. From 1996-2002, he worked as a correspondent for the Reuters Air Cargo Service (RACS), the first web-based information service for the worldwide air cargo, express and freight forwarding industry. In 2002, he was appointed editor of a new European transport industry newsletter, The Needham Report. He has also worked as a freelance correspondent for various international trade publications, and contributed articles to numerous newspapers and magazines. Paul joined CEP-Research in June 2005 in the position of Chief Editor.

Derek Osborn is an acknowledged international postal expert and an innovative business coach and facilitator. For over 22 years Derek was in Senior Management in Royal Mail in the UK, which included responsibility for national transport projects and consultancy on delivery operations and quality performance. He also focuses on strategy and human resource development.
Since 2002 he has been a successful independent international postal expert and has worked with all the leading posts across the world but mainly in Europe, including Poste Italiene, TPG Post, Swiss Post, Deutsche Post, Gibraltar, Latvia Post, Estonian Post and Posteurop.
Derek regular helps to organise and facilitate international postal benchmarking workshops and seminars; he writes in Postal Technology International and speaks or facilitates at major postal conferences such as those organised by Post Expo, IEA, Triangle and Rutgers. He compiled and runs the annual World Postal Survey and is on the judging panel of the World Mail and Express Awards. In the UK he has also worked with the National Health Service, police officers, the BBC, banks and other organisations with business and career coaching.

Worked two years as Deputy General Manager of the Danish savingsbank: Bikuben/BG Bank in London (fund management & investment banking) and 2 years as Managing Director of the savings banks subsidiary in Dublin (Corporate business).
Came to Eurogiro as Managing Director in 1997. Responsibilities are running the Eurogiro Network and co-ordinating the co-operation between 53 members of the Eurogiro payment club. Eurogiro has demonstrated strong growth as volumes are now 5 times higher than in 1997. Eurogiro Network A/S has a vision of acting as a gateway provider for its members and partners, thereby providing cost efficient links between different products, geographical regions or technologies. Mr David J Ross, Regional Vice President, Federal Express South Pacific
David J. Ross is Regional Vice President of FedEx Express, South Pacific, a position that he has assumed since April 2005.
Based in Singapore, David Ross manages over 2,000 staff and is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of corporate strategies and operations for FedEx in the South Pacific region. The region encompasses some of the world’s fastest growing economies, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Brunei, Indo-China, Indonesia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Thailand.
Mr. Ross began his career with FedEx Express in Sydney, Australia in 1992, managing the company’s Ground Operations until he was promoted to Managing Director of Australasia and Pacific Islands in 1993. In 1994, Indonesia was added to his area of responsibilities.
In November of 1995, Mr. Ross moved to take up the position of Managing Director for Hong Kong & Macau, one of the important districts for FedEx in Asia Pacific. Having successfully developed operations in Hong Kong and Macau, he was appointed as Vice President of North Pacific Region in September 1998, responsible for all corporate strategies and operations across Korea, Japan, Guam and Taiwan.

Mr R K Saboo, Chairman, Express Industry Council of India
Mr. R. K. Saboo, the dynamic and young Deputy Managing Director of First Flight couriers Limited, has been instrumental in spearheading and managing the phenomenal growth of First Flight over the last decade or so. His mix of business acumen and sharp insights has made him the cornerstone of all policy related matters pertaining to Operations / Human Resource / Information Technology.
Mr. R. K. Saboo, who aspired to be a Lawyer, after his graduation from the University of Calcutta and a brief foray in the textile business, migrated to Mumbai in 1986 but destiny had something else stored for him and he eventually got settled in Mumbai to shoulder responsibilities of a fledgling courier business then. He quickly mastered the art of this segment of business and capitalizing on his inherent strength of negotiating skills combined with a sound strategic vision, he along with his mentor and current CMD, Mr. O. P. Saboo, embarked an ambitious project to make First Flight a household name in India. The combined efforts of these two along with a core team, paid rich dividends and now with a network of 721 plus branches crisscrossing the country and serving over 1800 destinations managed by 8000 plus employees, is ample testimony of his varied business skills and entrepreneurship.
His quest for constant innovations and expansion has ensured over the years, a huge global presence with affiliate offices, at most strategic international locations, backed by an advance track & trace systems through indigenously developed software. This has ensured an impressive customer support and service excellence.
Mr. R. K. Saboo has not limited his unrestrained enthusiasm and skills only in business, but also quality time through his extra curricular activities and involvement. His association with the Express Industry Council of India (EICI) has been since its inception whereby, he was the Treasurer for six years and presently is its Chairman.
Mr.R.K.Saboo is a Member of the Core Group on Air Cargo recently constituted by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India.
He is a member of Indian Merchants Chamber and Indo-German Chamber of Commerce. He is also an active Rotarian and his abiding interest in social causes with a firm belief that every human being should try to contribute to the welfare and upbringing of the under privileged people has seen him occupying positions of power as a Rotarian.

Before his appointment in May 2002 as Vice President Asia Pacific & Middle East for Swiss WorldCargo, the freight division of Swiss International Airlines, since January 1997 Belgian born Carl Schelfhaut has been the overall responsible for Mail. In addition to that he also has been managing Sales & Marketing of Special Cargo at the Brussels Hub of the former Swisscargo, the air freight company of the now defunct SAirGroup. Mr Schelfhaut joined the Belgian home carrier Sabena in 1989 and managed sales, marketing and operations. Subsequently and in addition, he took over responsibilities for Cargo Marketing and Sales for Europe and Middle East, and this until the end of 1996 when Sabena Cargo merged with the SAirGroup. In 1993 he was elected Chairman of the IATA Air Mail Board, an Industry position which he has held until 2003, when joining Deutsche Post. He started his professional career in Hong Kong in 1980, immediately after his mandatory military duties, as a branch manager for a Belgian Merchandising Company, responsible for both consolidated purchase and shipping of consumer goods to Europe, a position which he held until joining the Belgian Carrier. Giving the above, Carl Schelfhaut is not a novice to mail transportation, logistics and politics. He has a vast experience and inside-out knowledge of both mail and cargo business from “both sides of the fence”.

Mr Christopher Smith, Managing Director, Postal and Compliance Consultancies
Chris is the Managing Director of Postal and Compliance Consultancies a company that is a specialist supplier of consultative and project related services to organisations involved in mailing and related activities. Postal and Compliance has a diverse range of clients from household names in the direct marketing sector, mailhouses, paper and packaging manufactures telecommunications providers and several postal authorities.
Prior to starting Postal and Compliance Consultancies in June 2003 Chris was employed by Reader’s Digest for 23 years in both Australia and New Zealand. Following a transfer to Australia Chris assumed the role of General Manager Postal, Consumer and Government Affairs for Australia and New Zealand focusing on the relationship, contracts and management of postal expenditure with Australia and New Zealand Post. In addition Chris was given the oversight of all postal activity for Reader’s Digest in the Asia Pacific region and represented the region on the Reader’s Digest Global Postal Council which had oversight of all global expenditure on postal related activity.
Until May this year Chris had represented Reader’s Digest on the Board of the Major Mail Users of Australia since 1994, the last three years as President of the Association. Chris has also represented Reader’s Digest on the Boards of both the Australian and New Zealand Direct Marketing Associations. He was also involved in the development and acceptance of the Australian Direct Marketing Code of Practice.
Chris has also been involved in the development and implementation of the Privacy Laws in New Zealand and Australia where he was a member of the Federal Privacy Commissioners code development group for the “National Principles for the Fair Handling of Personal Information” and was a member of the Federal Attorneys General Consultative Group on Privacy.

Peter Somers is the Managing Director of Belgian Post Interna-tional, a business unit of Belgian Post. Being responsible for the international mail business of Belgian Post, he is now actively working on a renewed strategy for the in-ternational expansion of Belgian Post International. The increased competition caused by the liberalisation of the European postal market is a serious challenge that he believes calls for new strate-gic thinking, tactical action and operational conduct. Peter is also Member of the Supervisory Board of DeltaMedia NV and Taxipost Nv. Both subsidiaries of Belgian Post. Deltamedia is active in the distribution of newspapers and non-addressed mail. Taxipost Nv, active in the distribution of parcels. Peter Somers is a seasoned international logistics director with more than 15 years experience from executive positions in leading transport and distribution companies in Belgium, The Netherlands and United Kingdom. In the postal and logistics market, he has in-depth expertise in designing and implementing alternative distribu-tion systems. Peter joined Belgian Post in 2000 as Managing Director of DeltaMe-dia SA/NV, and as Director Press Distribution. Both units of Belgian Post. After having successfully redesigned and implemented a new and efficient distribution system for newspapers, magazines and non-addressed mail, he was appointed Managing Director of Belgian Post International in June 2002. He retained the position as Manag-ing Director of Deltamedia till the end of 2004. Before joining Belgian Post, Peter held various executive positions and directorships in top transport and logistics companies such as Ducros, Distrinat and Kempers Logistics.

Mr Teck Lean Teong, President, The Association of Malaysian Express Carriers
Teong Teck Lean, aged 45, is the Executive Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GD Express Carrier Berhad.
After graduating with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Manitoba, Canada, he started his career as an engineer with Texas Instrument in 1984 before serving in the National Electricity Board as Consumer Engineer for four years. In 1990, he joined OSK Securities Bhd as an Institutional Dealer trading with institutions and high net worth individuals.
In 2000, he acquired a controlling stake in GD Express Sdn Bhd and was instrumental in turning around the Group thereafter, leading to the holding company being listed on the Mesdaq Market of Bursa Malaysia in May 2005.
Teong is currently serving his third term as President of the Association of Malaysian Express Carriers (AMEC). As President of AMEC, he has been involved in many discussions and forums relating to the Malaysian express carrier industry.

Mr James Thornton, Managing Director, Mailing List (Asia)
With a background in international magazine publishing (James Thornton owned and launched Business Traveller Europe in 1976 and Business Traveller Asia/Pacific in 1982), James Thornton formed MLA (Mailing Lists Asia Ltd.) in 1984. This was the first international list brokerage in Asia aimed at the regional DM industry and at direct marketers mailing into and out of Asia. MLA now manages print, production and mailing campaigns (as well as lists) out of Asia for international DM projects.
In 1984 (at the same time he launched MLA), James Thornton also founded Direct Response Holdings Ltd. which holds 50% and 100% equity positions in international DM projects covering investment newsletter publishing, product merchandising (New Yorker Collection), financial reports and newsletters, “opportunity” and travel sectors (including Bali.com and the Frequent Business Travellers Club).
James contributes to international DM publications and has been speaking for many years at direct marketing and postal conferences. He is on the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Direct Marketing Association.

Ms Tungol is Assistant Postmaster General for Finance of Philippine Postal Corporation. She assists the Postmaster General in managing the corporate affairs particularly in the financial area. She is responsible for recommending decisions and solutions, policies, procedures, systems, rules and regulations particularly in financial matters, as well as drawing plans and programmes related to financial management.

Tim supports PB's international businesses on a range of commercial and regulatory projects with a focus on Japan, China, India, UK, France and Germany, including advising large mailers on issues and options in the changing domestic and cross-border markets across the geographies served; submissions to national governments (e.g India) on future regulatory structures; and input to posts on growing mail volumes and reducing costs.
Dr Walsh currently serves as Chairman of FEDMA's postal affairs committee and vice-Chairman of the EU-wide postal users' group. He is also a member of the UPU’s Postal Development Action Group and has recently led workshops for the World Bank on postal reform in Africa and Thailand, based on his postal reform report of 2001.
Prior to joining PB in 2003 Tim worked for Royal Mail for thirteen years, latterly as head of sales strategy (2001-2003) and Director of International Affairs (1996-2001).

Ms Lisa Watson, Chairman, Direct Marketing Association of Singapore
In Asia since 1991, Lisa Watson is an expert business strategist, innovative thinker and CRM specialist with agency, technology and consulting experience behind her. She is an active advocate of the Direct Marketing industry and has served as Chairman of the Direct Marketing Association of Singapore since 2002. She also sits on the Operating Committee of the International Council of the U.S. Direct Marketing Association and is a regular conference speaker on four continents. With over 20 years of marketing, consulting and advertising experience, Ms Watson founded Ibis Intelligence Services in 2001 to help clients around the region with their data, intelligence and marketing skills strategies. One of her key assignments was as a Senior Director at Oracle Corporation, Asia Pacific Division where she developed a strategic framework for successful implementation of technology and applications as part of the CRM Applications team. Her advertising and CRM agency experience includes Leo Burnett, Young & Rubicam, Wunderman and OgilvyOne.
Ms Watson’s consulting experience spans both industries and continents having worked with both local and international companies including Apple, AT&T, Hewlett-Packard, SingTel, Xerox, Procter & Gamble, The Economist, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Nestle and DuPont, ABN AMRO Bank, AIU Insurance, American Express, Prudential Insurance, Shell, Standard Chartered Bank and Microsoft. She graduated from Lawrence University with an honors degree in Mathematics.
