Background & Experience
Avalone began his investment banking career in 1980 after spending more than three years as the executive assistant to United States Senator, Jacob K. Javits. In the mid- 1980's, he was a managing director at Drexel Burnham Lambert. In 1986, one of his transactions was accorded "Deal of the Year" honors by Institutional Investor publication and he was cited as one of the key figures of the emerging taxable bond market for state and local governments.

His specific real estate investment banking career has spanned over 20 years. He ran a private placement group focusing on structuring and placing credit tenant leases for a major international investment bank in the early 1990's. Later, he established the commercial real estate department in the US for one of the largest Japanese investment banks. Avalone oversaw the origination and management of a $2 billion construction loan portfolio containing virtually every property type. He also headed that firm's real estate merchant banking activities and executed a sale lease-back transaction for a major grocery store chain while it was in Chapter 11.

In the late 1990's he founded his own firm and bought several of the assets of that Japanese firm through financing from a major investment bank. He then managed, repositioned and sold off those assets.

Immediately prior to joining NAI, he was the COO of the Carlton Group a leading commercial mortgage real estate brokerage firm in New York. He is regarded as an expert in worldwide capital markets and the financing of real estate.

In 1986 Ali worked for Comfitrade as a trader, trading on the US exchanges. During the same period, he selected funds for Comfitrade and its clients. Ali participated in the construction and management of a proprietary trading system. The proprietary trading system was highly successful and Ali was nominated the Operations Manager, responsible for everything from client relations, account opening, trade execution and reporting.

In 1996 Ali joined Sadaakah where he focused on investments in equity securities. His experience with futures funds led him to concentrate on alternative investments such as Hedge Funds. Khaldoon Tabaza is Chairman and Managing Director of Riyada Ventures, a regional private equity management, advisory, and venture creation firm. Starting his career as an entrepreneur, and later on as a venture capital professional, he has successfully established, managed, and invested in a number of high profile technology, telecom, media, Internet, and finance ventures. Over the past 12 years, he has worked and lived in Jordan, Egypt, UAE, and Saudi. He is a board member of the Arab Private Equity Union.
