Mr Bevan was appointed Chief Executive Officer and a director in June 1998. Mr Bevan is an electrical engineer with experience in the electricity, mining and building services industries. Mr Bevan is a fellow and past president of Engineers Australia (Tasmania Division) and a fellow of the AICD. He is deputy chairman of the Australian National Committee of CIGRE (Conseil International des Grand Réseaux Electriques, or International Council on Large Electric Systems).

Paul was appointed General Manager Aurora Retail in March 2004. He has 22 years of electricity supply industry experience, with a focus on energy retailing for the past 13 years. Paul has broad commercial experience with roles ranging from management accounting, treasury, project management, marketing, regulatory strategy and retail/customer strategy.

Paul has a Bachelor of Commerce, is a Certified Practising Marketer and is an associate fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute.

Andrew is the CEO and MD of Australian Energy Ltd that owns and operates PowerDirect. Founded in 1997, Powerdirect is a new entrant specialist retailer to SME businesses. It sells approx 700GWh of energy pa to 20,000 customers in the National Electricity Market states, employs 80 people and has offices in Adelaide, Sydney and the head office in Melbourne. Previous roles have included Marketing Director of Yallourn Energy and General Manager Strategic Support, Mercury Energy Limited

David Brown is General Manager of Bell Bay Power Pty Ltd. Bell Bay Power is scheduled to separate from its current owner Hydro Tasmania around the timed of Basslink entering commercial service. In the role of General Manager, David is responsible to the Board for taking Bell Bay Power from a 100% owned Hydro Tasmania subsidiary to an independent generation business competing profitably in the National Electricity market. David has over 25 years experience in the energy industry; spending 10 years with British Gas and eight years with Southern Electric , both in the UK. Whilst at Southern Electric, David was responsible for the trading and retail business which supplied gas and electricity to its 2.7million customer base generating an annual turnover of $1.7 billion. David moved to Australia in 1997 to take up a position as Director in PricewaterhouseCoopers energy practice. Subsequently David became a Partner at PA Consulting prior to setting up his own specialist energy consulting firm. David has a degree in natural gas engineering, is a chartered gas engineer and also holds a Diploma of Financial Services.

Dr Peter Davis became a director following his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Aurora Energy on 19 March 2004. He is chairman of Aurora Energy AAPT Pty Ltd and EziKey Group Pty Ltd. Previously he had been General Manager National Markets, and General Manager of the retail arm of Aurora Energy since the formation of the company in July 1998. Prior to that he held the position of General Manager Sales and Marketing with the Hydro-Electric Corporation, and was responsible for the establishment of Australia’s first Integrated Energy Management Centre. Peter has worked in the energy industry since 1981, and has been a member of a number of national forums involved in demand management and strategic resource planning. He has experience in energy policy, strategic planning, energy management, marketing and customer service, and has been actively involved in industry reform. Peter holds a PhD in energy engineering from the University of Queensland, and an MBA from Deakin University.

Steve Edwell,

Steve Edwell has been appointed by the Ministerial Council on Energy as inaugural Chair of the Australian Energy Regulator, a position he has held since 23 May 2005. Steve has over 15 years experience in reform of utilities, in particular electricity and water, where he has driven a number of comprehensive reform projects, and has worked in both the public and private sectors. From 1988 to 1998, Steve worked in Queensland Treasury, holding the position of Assistant Under Treasurer Structural Reform. Subsequently Steve has taken various contracted positions in the utilities sector and has acted as a consultant on a range of electricity and water matters, specialising in large scale reform implementation. Immediately prior to this appointment, Steve worked for the Western Australian Government leading the implementation of comprehensive electricity reform in that State. Steve was also the CEO of the Queensland Electricity Reform Unit, which implemented a range of electricity reforms culminating in Queensland joining the National Electricity Market. His other assignments have included being commissioned by the Queensland Government to implement the COAG water reforms and as head of the Queensland Office of Energy. Steve has a commerce/economics degree from University of New South Wales and an MBA from University of Queensland.

Phil is a Deputy Secretary in the Tasmanian Department of Infrastructure, Energy & Resources, and also holds the statutory position of Director, Energy Planning and Conservation. He is responsible for policy advice and program and contract management with respect to the State’s road and rail network, public transport, transport and infrastructure planning, energy, mining and forestry. Before taking up this position in July 2004, he was Head of the Energy Efficiency Policy Analysis Division at the International Energy Agency in Paris, and has previously held senior positions within Commonwealth Government in Canberra, including Senior Executive Manager with the Australian Greenhouse Office.

Simon Himson B Comm. is a Certified Practising Accountant with Masters degree majoring in marketing from Charles Stuart University. Simon commenced with Duke Energy International in late 2001 and carried through his commercial responsibilities in respect of the Tasmanian Gas Pipeline following its purchase by Alinta Ltd. His current responsibilities include the commercial development of the pipeline, management of current gas supply contracts and government relations in Tasmania. He also has carriage of the completion of the acquisition of the pipeline easements and the land compensation process. Immediately prior to commencing work on the Tasmanian Gas Pipeline Simon spent eight years with the Tasmanian Government’s development arm. Roles there included General Manager Food and Beverages and also General Manager Technology and Innovation. Prior to that he was Financial Accounting Manager for Mars Confectionery based in Ballarat.

Dominique La Fontaine,

Dominique La Fontaine was appointed CEO of the Australian Wind Energy Association (AusWEA) in January 2005. Through her involvement with industry, local government and community groups, Dominique has become an accomplished government and community relations professional who is adept at policy analysis and the development and implementation of political campaigns. Her extensive career has involved working closely with rural communities and implementing a wide array of community education projects. Among other roles, Dominique has previously been employed as Executive Officer of Timber Towns Victoria, the local government lobby group focusing on rural economic development policy issues; and as Rural Senior Policy Advisor with the Municipal Association of Victoria.

Norm McIlfatrick,

Norm McIlfatrick is the Chief Executive of the Tasmanian Government’s lead development agency, the Department of Economic Development. Norm, took up his five-year appointment in late March 2004 and is now overseeing the department responsible for helping Tasmanian business and industry, including the Antarctic, screen and sport and recreation industries, to develop and thrive. He returned to Tasmania in 1999 as Chief Executive Officer of Tasmania’s electricity distribution and retail company, Aurora Energy Pty Ltd. During his time at the helm, Aurora returned record before-tax profits for four successive years, reached record electricity sales and was recognised nationally for people management and community development initiatives. Norm was previously a management consultant with PA Consulting Group, working nationally and internationally with a range of electricity, gas and water utilities. He had 18 years’ experience with the Hydro-Electric Commission in Tasmania before moving to Melbourne in 1995 to take a senior position with Powercor Australia, Victoria's leading electricity distribution and retail company. A Companion to the Institution of Engineers Australia and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Norm has post graduate management qualifications from the University of Tasmania and is a board member of Relationships Australia (Tasmania) and the Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority. Norm was born in Northern Ireland and educated in Victoria and Tasmania. He is married with three adult children and lives in Hobart.

Nick McKim was elected to Tasmania’s House of Assembly in 2002 to represent the Tasmanian Greens. He has been a critic of the Basslink proposal as much for its financial risk as for its environmental impact. Nick would like to see the Tasmanian government actually deliver on a clean, green and clever future, rather than merely talking about it. He is the Tasmanian Greens Spokesperson for Energy.

Andrew Reeves was appointed Commissioner of the Government Prices Oversight Commission in 1996 to investigate and recommend maximum prices charged by monopoly Government business. In 1998, the Commissioner also became the Regulator of the Tasmanian electricity supply industry. The Regulator’s, responsibilities include the technical and economic regulation of the industry including the setting of performance targets and the oversight of industry development. The Regulator is also responsible for setting maximum prices for distribution services and for retail tariffs. Andrew is also the Director of Gas, with responsibility for the regulation, including licensing and the development of Codes, of the Tasmanian natural gas industry. His first professional discipline was Engineering, with post graduate qualifications in Economics.

Jon Richards has worked in media and politics for the past 16 years. A journalist by trade, Jon worked in radio and television in New South Wales and Victoria. In 1994 he joined then Victorian Premier Jeff Kennetts Private Office as press secretary, handling media strategy for the Premier and Cabinet Ministers. In 1999 Jon became Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Victorian National Party. In August 2000 he joined UK based international transmission company National Grid Transco as Australian Director of Corporate Affairs based in Melbourne. He is responsible for government and media relations and the Groups corporate social responsibility program.

Mr Willis took up the position as Chief Executive Officer on 8 March 1999. Prior to this appointment, Mr Willis was Managing Director, Amcor Paper Group. He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree, a Masters degree in Business Administration and has completed the Executive Program at Stanford University. Mr Willis is the Chairman of the Energy Supply Association of Australia's Environment Committee , a member of the National Electricity Code Administrator Reliability Panel and Chairman of Colorpak Limited. Mr Willis is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
