Companies widely viewed as running the world’s most finely tuned supply chains are learning how to adjust their operations “on the fly.” Realizing that even the best plans are never 100% accurate, Viewlocity provides software that helps companies identify points in time when, as information and goods are moving through the supply chain, adjustments can be made to increase profits and raise customer service levels.
Viewlocity is a key component of this strategy at companies widely recognized as today’s masters of supply chain management. Using Viewlocity, Dell has increased service levels while reducing inventory; Nissan uses Viewlocity to cut costs, increase parts availability, and track supplier performance; and Ford uses Viewlocity to efficiently move thousands of parts from suppliers to assembly lines exactly when needed for production. For the greater part of its lifespan, Singapore Manufacturers' Federation (SMa) was known as the Singapore Manufacturers' Association (SMA).

SMA was founded in 1932 by 17 pioneering manufacturers with the objective of representing the interests of Singapore manufacturers. Soon enough, SMA became the voice of the manufacturing sector supporting the British colonial economy.

In the 1960s, the Singapore manufacturing sector grew rapidly after the PAP government adopted an export-led growth strategy to spur the economy forward. Within a matter of years, the manufacturing sector became one of the main pillars of the economy, and SMA was seen as the catalyst of that growth.

The name "Singapore Confederation of Industries" (SCI) came into being in 1996. It was created with the purpose of gearing up SCI to be the umbrella body for all industries and associations in Singapore. This would have broadened SCI's scope to cover businesses in all industries, other than the narrowly-defined manufacturing industries.

But with the establishment of the Singapore Business Federation in 2002, it was no longer appropriate for SCI to be named as a "Confederation of Industries". After much debate, a special SMa Task Force proposed that our organisation be re-named as "Singapore Manufacturers' Federation" or "SMa" for short.
