Garry has been an IT professional at IBM for over 25 years, with a focus on storage management for the last 20. He combines business and financial skills with expertise in technology to lead installations in successfully implementing major storage projects and deriving large cost savings. His track record of accomplishments in storage make him a highly regarded member of the world wide IBM storage community.
His background includes all aspects of storage including disk, tape, optical storage and software, on mainframe and distributed platforms. His focus today is on Open Systems storage networking.
Garry has a mathematics degree and Diploma of Education from the University of Adelaide.

Darrell joined the AFP in 1995 as a System Administrator. Prior to this, he worked for 5 years as a System Administrator and Help Desk Operator with the Queensland Government.
1n 1999 he joined the Computer Forensic Team of the Australian Federal Police.
The Computer Forensic Team is responsible for the capture, recovery, reconstruction and presentation of electronic evidence for court. Darrell has extensive experience in this work, across a broad range of computer systems.
Darrell has a Bachelor of Business degree from the Queensland University of Technology as well as a Graduate Diploma in Information Systems. He also has a CompTIA A+ Certification.

Chad Gates is National Policy Director at the Australian Retailers Association. Chad provides representation and advice to retailers in many areas of retail and represents the interests of the retail industry to all levels of Government. He is also the Chairman of the Australian Merchant Payments Forum, an ARA industry group representing merchants on EFTPOS and Credit Card issues.
Chad has been working in retail for twenty years and has worked for both small family owned businesses as well as department stores and major specialty chains, with a strong emphasis on inventory management, systems and sales. Chad is an Arts graduate from Monash University and holds a Certificate IV in Training & Personal Skill Development.

Paul Grady is General Manager of the i-Solutions Division, a post he has held since 2001.
Prior to joining NEC in 1989, Paul held management positions with the State Bank of Victoria, and Victorian-based technology company KCS Computers. Paul is responsible for setting the strategic direction of NEC’s ecommerce business and solutions development, including the development of new business products and strategies for NEC’s ecommerce platforms.

David currently works for Fuji Xerox Global Services (FXGS) in the Professional Services Group. He is employed as the Practice Leader; Enterprise Information Management (EIM). He consults and provides advice to FXGS clients who are pursuing information management solutions, in particular; workflow, knowledge, document and records management solutions.
He is a widely published, internationally recognised advisor on the subjects of Knowledge Management, Information Management Records and Document Management, E-Business, Workflow & Image Processing, Process Mapping & Analysis, and information enabling technology. Although David’s specialist field is predominantly in information management, his previous experience has given him a strong and varied IT general management background. In previous employment, David was the Global Service Line Leader, Knowledge Management for Deloitte Consulting.
He has conducted Corporate Plans, Strategic Studies and Implementation & Impact Studies on the introduction of information technologies. He has had extensive involvement with the design, development, introduction, implementation and post-implementation of Knowledge Management, Workflow, E-Business (and E-Publishing), Document Management, Records Management, Inter/Intranet, Scanning, Image technology, Text Retrieval, Indexing Systems, OCR, ICR, CMR, Process Mapping and Analysis and Bar Code technologies to many organisations both in Australia and overseas.
His professional interests have been focused on research and development of new technology, marketing and the development of information and document management as both a profession and for the achievement of greater productivity.
He is often called on to deliver presentations and to chair conferences and seminars on all aspects of information management both nationally and internationally.
He is currently, and has been since its inception, the Chair (and thought leader) of Standards Australia IT/21 (Records Management) committee. He is also the Chair of the International Standards Organisation TC46 SC11 Archives/Records Management. Both committees have now published a number of Standards (AS4390, AGLS – AS5044, ISO15489, AS5090 etc.). Both committees are currently working on new and exciting innovations in the areas of compliance, metadata, workflow and technology delivery standards.
He is currently the Vice President, International Records Management Congress, Australasia & Oceania. He is a National Director of the Records Management Association of Australia (RMAA),and Vice-President of the Victorian Branch.

Michael is the Deputy Commissioner for Serious Non Compliance within the Australian Taxation Office.
Michael joined the Australian Taxation Office in 1979 where he worked in the Appeals and Review area before being appointed Personal Assistant to Trevor Boucher, the previous Commissioner of Taxation.
Michael also worked as the Taxation Adviser to (the then) Senator Bob McMullan, the inaugural Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer.
In 1991, Michael was appointed Project Manager for the implementation of Superannuation Guarantee, subsequently becoming the National Program Manager for the Superannuation Business Line in the ATO. Overall, Michael’s responsibility for Superannuation spanned the years between 1991 and 1999.
In June 1999, Michael commenced as First Assistant Commissioner for ATO Corporate. Michael’s responsibilities encompassed positioning the ATO for the future, further work on corporate values and the Taxpayer Charter principles, and ensuring that Corporate Services delivery furthered the ATO’s business outcomes.
In March 2001, Michael took on a new business line with responsibility for Corporate Communication and Public Affairs and in November 2001 added a further important responsibility for Human Resources, Skilling and Performance. This became the ATO Relations business line.
In July 2003, Michael was asked to head up the new Serious Non Compliance Business Line. Serious Non Compliance provides a corporate capability to systemically and sustainably deal with clients demonstrating extremes of evasion, disengagement and strong resistance to meeting their tax obligations.

Matt has over 14 years in information and records management. Experience encompasses Records Management roles within local and central government. Positions have involved implementing corporate wide records and information management systems and automated workflows.
Matt has lectured at Auckland University of Technology in Database Applications and Professional Development and has been a guest lecturer on the Master of Library & Information Studies at Victoria University of Wellington.
Academically, Matt has qualifications in Business Management, Health Science, Information Sciences and Adult & Tertiary Teaching. Certified in the United States, Matt is a Microsoft Office Master Instructor, and certified in ITSM - IT Service Management (by the Information Systems Examinations Board - United Kingdom).
Professionally, Matt is a member of the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM), a previous councillor and currently member, of the New Zealand Branch of the Records Management Association of Australasia (RMAA – status Member), the Archives and Records Association of New Zealand (ARANZ) and The New Zealand Computer Society (NZCS – status Member).
Matt manages his own business offering training and consultancy services including Microsoft Office Training, Access database development, and customised training and software development. Software products include project management, educational and expert knowledge repositories. Compass Training also supports the local community, having made several donations of its educational software products to local community learning centres.
As well as publishing articles and presenting at numerous international forums (in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom), Matt was a Central Regional Finalist at the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM) Young Executive of the Year Award – 2002. Matt was also awarded the Auckland Rotary Club Scholarship from 1991 through to 1995. Matt was a member of the Archives New Zealand Corporate Men’s Team, which won the Martinborough ‘Round the Vines’ 10km Run – 2002

James Scott is currently the Corporate Manager – IT Operations, Knowledge and Information Systems division for Toyota Australia. In this role, James is responsible for Toyota’s IT Infrastructure, Software Development and Sales & Marketing Technology Systems groups covering all Toyota’s Australia sites and systems.

IT Infrastructure encompasses the planning, procurement, implementation and ongoing support of all corporate systems, desktop, network and telecommunication technologies.
Software development covers the support and enhancement of Toyota’s key EPR and HR system – SAP, and many other legacy & supporting systems.
Sales & Marketing Technology Solutions provide business analysis and system design capabilities for the highly dynamic and evolving sales arm of Toyota Australia.

James first joined Toyota in 1987, in the Purchasing Department as Trainee Buyer. Prior to joining Toyota, James completed an apprenticeship in Toolmaking – spending his remaining years working on CAD/CAM and CNC Production Numeric Control.
Since joining Toyota, James progressed through a number of positions within Purchasing ranging from Non-Production consumables, through to OE purchasing of vehicle components, finally specialising in IT procurement.
In 1994, James was approached to move to IT to oversee the very new area of Desktop Computer support. Having recently tendered both PC procurement and support contracts, James began supervising a small team of support engineers for Toyota’s PC fleet of <250 devices which has now grown to more than 2000 devices.
In his current role of Corporate Manager – IT Operations, he has managed several of Toyota critical projects covering the Desktop Computer Outsourcing, Y2K, Infrastructure to support Toyota’s implementation of SAP ERP & HR including consolidation of many Sun Solaris systems to a highly scalable IBM P690, and most recently, the new Corporate Headquarters – which can boast the most state of the art boardroom within Australia, CAT 6 cabling standards and full VoIP plus many other new and exciting features.
James was also recently selected as one of three candidates to attend the “University of Toyota - Presidents Leadership Course” hosted in Los Angeles, USA and earlier this year was appointed as a member of Toyota’s Global Architecture Committee which has been developed to share, standardise and streamline IT Architecture worldwide.


Dr Mel Slater,

Prior to joining National ICT Australia, Dr Slater spent more than 25 years with leading technology firms including Gemplus and Motorola. At Gemplus he served as Senior Vice President, Americas, and while at Motorola, he served in a number of positions including Vice President and General Manager, Global Software Group Americas; Vice President and Director, Arizona Technology Laboratories; Vice President and Director, Design Technology Laboratories; and Corporate Director of Software. Over the course of his career Dr Slater has managed operations in more than ten countries.
Dr Slater is actively committed to education, having served as a member of the EECS Engineering Advisory Board at the University of California, Berkeley and as a member of the Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Illinois.
In partnership with the National Center for Super Computing Applications and the Smithsonian Institute, Dr Slater had responsibility for the production of Cosmic Voyage, an Academy Award-nominated IMAX film.
He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation, the Computer Aided Design Framework Initiative, and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, and as Chair of the Motorola Semiconductor Multicultural Board.
Dr Slater earned a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from City College, New York and a Masters and PhD in Electrical Engineering from New York University.

Dr. David J. Smith Ph.D, MBA, LL.B (Hons), FBCI
Dr. David J. Smith is a Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) a former executive member of the Board of Directors and the Chairman of its Education Committee.
He is a retired senior police officer with over 30 years experience in both the detective and uniform branches of the UK Police Service. As a practising Business Continuity Management (BCM)consultant, he is a globally recognised subject matter expert on Business Continuity and Crisis Management. He is also the Editor and a key contributor to the BCI BCM Good Practice Guidelines and the British Standards Institute BCM PAS56.
He is involved in defining and advising on BCM and crisis management best practice guidelines, standards and benchmarking initiatives for government departments, international and national business associations, industry groups and regulators, including the Asia Productivity Organisation and Lloyds of London.
David is also a visiting lecturer at Coventry University, a successful author,chairman and accomplished keynote speaker at national and international conferences and special interest groups.
He has received several prestigious awards that include the UK Business Continuity Manager of the year in 2002 and the UK Business Continuity Management Personality of the year in 2004.

Jason Stirling was appointed Managing Director of Genesys Laboratories Australasia in 2004, and is responsible for the company’s overall operations across Australia and New Zealand.
Jason has been with Genesys Laboratories for more than seven years, most recently as Director of Sales, Australasia. In this role he was responsible for developing and managing sales and customer relationships in Australian and New Zealand, with a particular emphasis on ensuring customers maximise their return on investment from Genesys solutions.
Previously, Jason was responsible for Genesys’ business development in Australia, New Zealand, with a particular focus on the telecommunications sector. In this role, Jason developed strong relationships with Telstra, Clear Telecommunications New Zealand and telecommunications companies in Singapore and Hong Kong. Key achievements in this role included extending Telstra and Clear Telecommunication’s business models beyond internal use of technology to include setting up business based on Genesys’ technology. Jason was also responsible for business development in the banking and financial services and call centre outsourcing sectors.
Before joining Genesys in 1997, Jason worked for Hewlett-Packard Australia in a business development role specifically managing Australian telecommunications companies including Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Business, Marketing, Economics and Accounting from Swinburne University and is an active member of the ATA and CCMA.

Riaki (Rick) Tanaka joined NEC Business Solutions Ltd in May 2004 and took up his appointment as Managing Director on 1 October 2004.
Prior to moving to Australia, he held a number of senior positions within NEC Corporation where he achieved significant sales growth across many telecommunications projects.
He joined NEC in 1975 with sales and marketing responsibilities in the Asia and Oceania Division. The next 25 years saw him move throughout Asia in senior sales and marketing management roles in the Telecommunications and Computer Systems Division.
In January 2000, he was appointed Vice President of NEC China Co. Ltd; moving into the role of Deputy General Manager and Director, Wuhan NEC Fibre Optics Communications Industry Co. Ltd. In June of that year he assumed the overall management of the company. In July 2001, he was appointed General Manager, First International Systems Division, of NEC's Telecommunications Business in China, Asia and the Oceania region. In April 2003, he became General Manager, Second Enterprise Communication Solutions Division, responsible for the Communications Solutions Enterprise Business in Japan and internationally.
Mr Tanaka has a Degree in Economics from Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo, Japan.
