Mr Michael Bartholomew, Director, ETNO
Michael Bartholomew was appointed director of the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO) in July 2000 and re-appointed in May 2003. ETNO is the main trade association for Europe’s 41 largest e-communications operators located in 34 countries.
Mr. Bartholomew, based in the Belgian capital for the past 20 years, is a public affairs specialist in telecommunications, audiovisual, multimedia, trade and technology issues. As director of ETNO, he is responsible for running the Brussels-based secretariat. He oversees all working groups and develops public policy for Europe’s largest telecom companies at the highest levels of government across the European Union and worldwide.
Prior to joining ETNO, Mr. Bartholomew served as Director for European Affairs for the Motion Picture Association that represents the global interests of Hollywood’s major studios. A British citizen, Mr. Bartholomew also founded a Brussels public affairs consultancy, which he managed successfully for nine years.

As the head of Business Development, Sean Besser is responsible for guiding the corporate growth of Movielink, including identifying, expanding and managing all of its strategic partnerships. Sean's current focus is on developing partnerships to boost the demand for legal video content over I/P, add value to Movielink's products, and improve the quality of the Movielink service.
Sean brings to Movielink nearly 10 years of experience in the delivery of entertainment and related services, including work at TiVo, Fox Sports, NBC, and most recently EchoStar (The DISH Network), where he managed all of the company’s broadband business development activities.
Sean holds an M.B.A. from the Haas Graduate School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, and both a J.D. and B.A from the University of Southern California.

He also spent two years at the media conglomerate Bertelsmann where he worked directly for the CEO & Chairman on strategy issues. Mr. Bijganath started his career as a management consultant with The Boston Consulting Group in the UK, India and China. Mr. Bijganath holds a master degree from the London School of Economics.

Guy Bisson has been researching and writing about the global television business for ten years. He is head of on-line data and statistical information service Television and Broadband Intelligence for media research and publishing group Screen Digest. Guy has particular expertise in digital TV, cable and satellite television and programme rights . As well as writing for Screen Digest magazine and other industry publications, Guy has acted as a consultant for numerous media groups, government organisations and investment banks. He has twice been retained as an expert witness in litigation cases involving major US studios. Guy has also authored or co-authored a number of in-depth business reports including the annual European Cable Yearbook (now in its fourth edition); European Programme Rights Markets; and European Digital Pay Television: Market assessment and forecast to 2006.

Mr Andrew Burke, Chief Executive Officer, BT Entertainment
Andrew Burke is CEO of BT Entertainment, which is a division within BT Retail’s consumer business to drive BT’s broadband activities in entertainment and education.
Andrew is responsible for driving the new division’s strategic brief to enable content providers to reach broadband customers through platforms and services backed by the quality of the BT brand. This includes developing, licensing and bringing to market content value added services such as on-demand music, gaming, TV and movies.
Andrew’s former role at BT was director, value added services for BT Retail, where he was responsible for devising and delivering the products and services that enhance BT’s range of access products. Particularly focused on broadband, Burke has driven BT's significant leadership through value added services spanning applications, content and devices. Burke has been the chairman of both BT’s digital content platform venture, BT Rich Media, and BT’s online payment services venture, BT Click & Buy. He is also a board director of BT Directories, BT Pay Phones. Burke reports directly to BT Retail group managing director, consumer and ventures Gavin Patterson.
Before joining BT, Burke was founder and chief executive officer of eVerger - a $100 million venture capital fund led by Aegis Group plc and Warburg Pincus and focused on eMarketing and CRM companies worldwide. Prior to that he was COO of eVentures, the internet venture capital fund owned by News Corporation and Softbank. He was the founder and CEO of LineOne, the leading UK internet service provider latterly acquired by Tiscali, and established News International’s initial internet presence in early 1995 by publishing The Times, Sunday Times, The Sun and News of the World online.

Prior to joining the private sector Sara lectured in Mass Communications while completing her Master’s thesis on the deregulation of the NZ broadcasting market.

As Senior Vice President of Digital Development & Distribution for EMI Music, Ted Cohen oversees worldwide digital business development for this “big five” record company, which includes labels such as Capitol, Virgin, Angel/Blue Note, Parlophone and Chrysalis. Under Cohen’s guidance, EMI has led the industry with its initiatives in new technologies and business models such as digital downloads, online music subscriptions, custom compilations, wireless services, high-definition audio and Internet radio.
In addition to seeking out, evaluating and executing business opportunities for the company, Cohen serves as both a strategist and key decision-maker for EMI’s global new media and anti-piracy efforts. He has worked to establish company-wide digital policies, which have provided EMI’s artists and labels a substantial advantage in the digital music arena.
Cohen served previously as the Executive Vice President of Digital Music Network Inc., where he co-founded and served as Chairman of the groundbreaking Webnoize conferences. He currently chairs MidemNet, an international music/technology conference convened in Cannes each year.
Additionally, Cohen lead two highly successful new media consulting operations, DMN Consulting and Consulting Adults, attracting clients such as Amazon.com, Microsoft, Universal Studios New Media, DreamWorks Records, Liquid Audio, Wherehouse Records/Checkout.com and various other entertainment, technology and new media organizations. During his time at the BBC, Jon helped prioritise the BBC’s investment in new digital services across all media, and worked closely with the BBC’s production and resources business to identify new opportunities and improve their performance.

Mr Simon Guild, Chief Executive, MTV Networks Europe
Simon Guild was appointed Chief Executive, MTV Networks Europe (MTVNE) in February 2005. In this position, Guild is responsible for the day-to-day management of MTV Networks Europe, the number one cable and satellite broadcasting group in Europe in terms of distribution and revenue. MTVNE encompasses a portfolio of 47 TV channels and 41 Web sites that includes the MTV, VH1, TMF, VIVA, Paramount Comedy, Nickelodeon and Game One.
Guild has been instrumental in shaping the company’s European business development over the past 12 years. He has spearheaded a number of key strategic initiatives for MTVNE, including acquisitions of VIVA, TMF and Game One, expanding MTV’s portfolio of niche TV channel and Web site offerings across Europe. Most recently, Guild has overseen further Nickelodeon expansion in Europe and will continue to champion the development of the Nickelodeon brand to create the biggest kids’ network across the region. In addition, Guild will help advance the network’s digital media strategy to personalise the company’s relationships with audiences in compelling ways.
Based in London, Guild reports to Brent Hansen, President, MTVNE and President of Creative, MTV Networks International.

Mr Simon Gunning, Head of Interactive Media, Celador
In 1997 Simon created his own company, SGM, to handle business management and career development for multi-platinum recording artists and producers. His achievements in music management include five UK number 1 LPs, two Grammy nominations and one MTV Europe Award.
In 1999, having built a successful business around key production clients, he began offering new media consultancy services to the music and television industries, including digital rights management and digital sales.
Simon joined Flextech Television in 2000 as Head of Business Development, Interactive Media. In this role he focussed on developing commercial interests across both new and traditional media, exploring global rights acquisition and exploitation across all digital media platforms.
In 2003 he became Controller of Interactive Programming where he played a key role in establishing and implementing new interactive business strategies across five of the UK’s biggest digital broadcast channels. This included the development of interactive sponsorship and advertising solutions, and the creation of synchronised and standalone interactive gaming, voting, competition and telephony operations to complement the channels’ programming. He was also responsible for establishing commercial and content partnerships across multiple platforms.
Simon joined Celador International in November 2004 as Head of Interactive Media.

Daniel Harris, Founder, Kendra Initiative
Daniel Harris is an entrepreneur and Internet content expert. Daniel is currently leading an initiative, which he founded in 1999, to promote an open content marketplace for the Internet, called Kendra. The aim is to drive interoperability between and within every link in the content value chain - to enable any device or application to browse, search and purchase content from any content catalogue, seamlessly - driving increased revenue to content owners and a more pleasurable buying experience for consumers.
Daniel has worked extensively in the UK Internet industry. In 1996, Daniel co-founded Cerbernet and served as CEO till late 1998. Under his watchful eye Cerbernet grew to become the UK's leading independent broadband Internet Service Provider. Cerbernet was acquired for over 4m GBP by First Telecom early in 2000 - at the height of the dotcom bubble. Daniel then worked for Atlantic Telecom as their Content Delivery Adviser till early 2001.
In 1994 Daniel co-founded Cerberus, whose CDJ (Cerberus Digital Jukebox) was the first system for copyright protected Internet-based music distribution. Drawing on video broadcast experience, Daniel specified MPEG compression, encryption and distribution technologies for the CDJ. The CDJ went on to influence a whole generation of online music stores.
Daniel is a keen environmentalist. He is CEO and owner of Freewheelers - the international lift share website, matching passengers to car drivers, to reduce journey costs and pollution from car travel. Daniel was educated in art and design at London's Camberwell College. He currently resides somewhere on Dartmoor in deepest, darkest Devon, UK.

A native of Bonn, Germany and now residing in Basel, Switzerland, Gerd has spent over twenty years in new technology and entertainment, both in the U.S. as well as in Europe. In 2005, Gerd co-authored the critically acclaimed book "The Future of Music" and he now frequently lectures at tradeshows, conferences, think-tanks and leading events world-wide, as well as on podcasts and net-forums such as on Corante, ITConversa-tions, Inside Digital Media, Technation and others. Gerd experienced the .com boom years as Founder/President/CEO of Li-censeMusic.com, Inc. in San Francisco, revolutionising the process of music licensing and introducing E-Commerce into B2B processes for la-bels and publishers. He now is the Founder/CEO of ThinkAndLink (TAL, www.thinkandlink.biz), a strategic advisory agency based in Switzerland and San Francisco, and recently started his own company again, SONI-FIC (www.sonific.com). Helmut Leopold has been with Telekom Austria since 1999, where he currently holds the position of Head of Platform and Technology Management. He is responsible for the implementation of new technologies and the realization of new services on the basis of Telekom Austria's infrastructure.
From 1994 to 1999 he filled various management positions at Alcatel. From 1989 to 1994 he served as a research engineer at Alcatel Austria Research Center in the field of high performance networking and multimedia communications. Mr. Leopold has always been actively involved in European projects in the broadband area (including ESPRIT, RACE, ACTS and COST) as well as with regard to international standardization (ETSI). Moreover, he is member of various task forces within the scope of the Austrian Government's telecommunication programs. Since 1997 he has given lecturers on Broadband Communications at the University of Technology of Vienna and acted as evaluator in the R&D programmes of the European commission.
He is also vice president of the Austrian Research Center 'Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation Wien (FTW)'. Mr. Leopold has a degree in Electronics and Communications from the Technical College HTBLV Rankweil, Austria and a degree in Computer Science from the University of Technology of Vienna.

Mr. Marovac is the Founder and Managing Partner of DN Capital which is a pan-European venture capital firm focusing on investments in software and IT in the enterprise and communications sector. Mr. Marovac is a Board member of Empower Interactive, JacobsRimell, Kaidara SA, Shazam Entertainment and Chairman and CEO of DN Capital.
Mr. Marovac founded DN Capital in June 2000 after leaving Advent International, one of the world's leading global private equity houses, where he was a Partner in the London office. At Advent International, he spent five years investing in European media, IT services, Internet and telecom companies. His investments include Synergon (IPO: LSE/BSE), Hogart, Internet Securities (Now Euromoney) and @Entertainment (IPO Nasdaq>Now UPC). Prior to Advent, Mr. Marovac was a Financial Analyst in the leveraged buyout group of Bankers Trust in New York focusing on media and communications.

David Noble, Senior Advisor, 3i
David has been a Sector Adviser at 3i since 1998. Before joining 3i he had gained more than ten years of general management experience. He has previously worked at IMI, Thorn EMI and then Wills Group, where he was eventually promoted to divisional chief executive. He then joined Quadrant Group as managing director of the video equipment division, eventually becoming the managing director of the group's imaging division.
David specialises in media, working with investment teams worldwide. Key deals that he has been involved in include; Fonecta, a telephone directory businesses; De Telefoongids and Herold Mediatel, subsequently merged into Yellow Brick Road; Educational Information Group, an educational publisher; Magix, an entertainment software company; and Zefa, the third largest picture library in the world.

Marilyn H. O’Connell is senior vice president - Broadband Solutions at Verizon, a post she has held since December 2003. She is responsible for leading the development, deployment, and customer experience management of products enabled by Verizon’s Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) infrastructure. These include both data and video applications. She also leads Verizon’s retail and wholesale DSL product line, new product development and implementation such as iobi and broadband value-added services.
Previously, O’Connell has held several senior manager posts in Verizon and one of its pr edecessor companies, GTE. Most recently, O’Connell was vice president – Marketing Services and lead Verizon’s Retail Markets team in gathering and analyzing key information about competitors and customers in the residential and general business marketplace, developing long-term strategies and plans, monitoring key performance metrics and managing customer databases. Before that, O’Connell was vice president – Strategy and Business Development, leading corporate-wide efforts that examined key strategic options and alliances, particularly in the areas of revenue growth and competitive response.

Ira Rubenstein has built a career on identifying and implementing new marketing and distribution tactics for entertainment properties through interactive, online and mobile initiatives. As senior vice president of Sony Pictures Digital Sales and Marketing, a division of Sony Pictures Digital, he is responsible for overseeing the division’s efforts to extend Sony Pictures properties into the digital marketplace through SonyPictures.com, mobile entertainment, personalization products, online and mobile games, and innovative strategic partnerships.
Previously, Rubenstein directed Sony Pictures Integrated Network’s brand integration and sponsorship strategies and was also responsible for overseeing the production and creative direction for SonyPictures.com. In addition, he was integral to the establishment of Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment’s on-demand movie initiative, which ultimately became Movielink, a groundbreaking partnership among five studios.
Rubenstein also served as vice president, marketing for Columbia TriStar Interactive where he developed over 100 film sites and received numerous honors including Webby awards, a Gold Clio and The Hollywood Reporter Key Art award.

Maxime is also responsible for CANAL+ Group’s consumer studies.
Maxime Saada reports to Bertrand Meheut, Chairman of the CANAL+ Group. CANAL+ Group is a 100%-owned subsidiary of Vivendi Universal.
Previous responsibilities held by Maxime include 5 years at the management consulting firm McKinsey & Company in Paris and 5 years in the United States with the French Government entity in charge of North American investments in France.

He spent the first 20 years of his career at AT&T, working on the development of speakerphones, cellular phones, and smart cards. He is a frequent speaker at music industry and Internet related conferences.
Singer is listed as an inventor on more than a dozen U.S. patents and he holds a BS degree in Computer Science from the University at Stony Brook and a MS and PhD from Cornell University.

Mr Nicholas Wheeler, Managing Director, Multimedia Services, ITN Multimedia
Nicholas Wheeler has a dual role as Managing Director of ITN’s Multimedia Content division responsible for developing ITN’s interests in news on mobile phones and in broadband as well as Chief Editor, ITN Radio, a position he took up in March 1996, six months after joining ITN as Editor of Independent Radio News (IRN). For some year’s Nick has been widely renowned as one of the radio industry’s leading figures in news programming, and is now adding earning a reputation in mobile news content as well.
In his first year since appointment he has established ITN mobile video news on a number of platforms but especially on Vodafone live!, O2 Active, developed its position on 3 and broadened its content offering beyond hard news to include more fun and entertainment packages.
Nicholas began his journalistic career in local newspapers in 1972 and moved into radio in 1979 as a news producer at BBC Radio Solent. In 1984 he worked as a news producer for Radio One’s ‘Newsbeat’ and the following year joined Capital Radio to help start the highly successful and popular news programme ‘The Way It Is’.
Two years later in 1987 Nicholas took control of Capital’s News and Talks Department, pioneering a new style of radio news presentation. In 1994 he was appointed Programme Controller to oversee the running of Capital FM and Capital Gold and, in the same year, he beat Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme to win the prestigious Sony Award for Best News Programme.

Mr Jeremy Yates, Managing Director, Playboy TV UK
Jeremy is Managing Director of Playboy TV UK, overseeing the company’s networks, which include 9 channels broadcast from the UK and one in Europe. The role covers other European operations and the sales and marketing of the channels and content throughout Europe, including growing VOD, online and DVD businesses. Jeremy has over 15 years experience in cable and satellite television, principally working on launching and operating niche services for the Pay market, including the UK’s first Asian Pay channel; a B Movie channel; the UK and Europe’s first erotic network.
